Brenda May Araki, 62, of Hilo died March 1 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired housekeeper for Hilo Medical Center and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 6-9 p.m. Monday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation again 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by husband, Derrick Araki of Hilo; daughters, Tracey (Chauncy) Turnage of North Carolina and Amy (Kaholo Troy) Bullock of Hilo; mother, Janet Ayala of Honomu; brother, Larry Ayala of Honomu; sisters, Debra (David) Lerma of Pepeekeo and Danette Ayala of Hilo; daughter-in-law, Eloise Miller of Hilo, HI; 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; numerous nieces &nephews. George Botelho Fernandez Jr., 72, of Volcano died Feb. 28. Born in Honolulu, he was a roofing contractor. Memorial services 1-3 p.m. March 15 at Cooper Community Center in Volcano. Frank “Frankie” Lawrence Moniz III, 88, of Kapaau died March 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kohala, he was a retired herbicide specialist for Mauna Lani Golf Course, a planter operator for the former Kohala Sugar Co., and member of Kohala Kupuna Softball Team and New Hope Christian Fellowship Waimea. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea for a combined memorial service for him and his late son, Samuel Moniz. Service at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by sons, Lawrence (Christie) Moniz of Neah Bay, Wash., Eliott Moniz of Kona and Patrick (Debbie) Moniz of Keaau; daughter, Francine (Milton) Higa of Honolulu; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Takeshi Sako, 88, of Hilo, formerly of Kurtistown, died Feb. 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Mountain View, he was a retired farmer and member of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Services held. Survived by wife, Elaine Sako of Hilo; son, Warren (Janet) Sako of Kurtistown; daughter, Wanda Sako of Hilo; brother, Yoshio (Asako) Sako of Kurtistown; sisters, Kimiko (Harry) Ige of Waianae, Oahu, and Michiye Enomoto of Honolulu; three grandchildren; brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Dr. Marlin Spike Werner, 87, of Papaikou died Feb. 10 at home. Born in Portland, Maine, he was a retired audiologist and consultant to hearing aid dispensers, private physicians, and hospitals and member of Speleological Society, Hilo Palm Society, Virea Society, Film Club, American Bamboo Society, and Curmudgeons of Hilo. Celebration of life 2 p.m. Monday at Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu. Inurnment at a later date in Carlinville, Ill. Memorial donations to The Salvation Army, Hilo Branch. Survived by son, Leo (Maryann) Hart of Colorado; daughters, Marlene (Henry) Kaim and Catherine (Phil) Boder of Colorado; grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
